This German Shepherd that was starving in the street finally found a reason to hope
St. Francis, or Frannie for short, is a German Shepherd female who has experienced many difficulties. Last December, she was discovered at a roadside, feeding on the carcass of a dead animal to survive.

Val's Pals and GSD Large Paw Rescue, Rescue Association near Houston, Texas (USA) acted quickly after being alerted to the situation of the dog. Volunteers sought for hours and were about to give up when one of the members discovered what appeared to be a dog lying in the bushes.

The volunteers were first approached with caution, to realize that the animal was safe: the dog had indeed no strength in his very emaciated body. She could not even move. The team was then transported to the car. The Life With Dogs website has published the story of the rescuers:
Time, that day, was freezing, and the dog would probably never have survived if volunteers had not found.
Frannie was taken to the veterinary clinic Vergi Animal Hospital in Houston, where she received numerous examinations. These were bleak. The poor animal was suffering from anemia and was so hungry that the medical team had to feed it via the loaded vitamin infusions to slowly reintroduce food into her body. Frannie was also very thin, and his rescuers have even thought for a moment that she would not survive.

But the German Shepherd fought well and was eventually transferred to a care home a few days later. Jill Washburn, his foster mother took Frannie several times a week to the vet, before testing his sugar levels, protein and electrolyte, and took care of it until the dog can eat small solid meal every six hours.

Boram Amy Wilson took over and took care of Frannie with the same attention, as she taking him to the vet. Amy and Jill finally made known the love and affection to the little dog.

On 27 February 2016, Frannie finally joined his home for life: it was adopted by a couple, Jack and Jan Long. The animal now has everything a dog could hope for: freedom, food, and especially love. His humans have even adopted another dog, which quickly became his best friend.

Frannie is sometimes still wary because of his traumatic past, but she enjoys her new life, full of joy and energy. She finally found the family she so richly deserved.
